FINDING PURPOSE BEYOND YOUR PAIN

imageAs a minister I constantly encounter hurting people who are seeking answers as to why bad things continually happen to them.  After all, if God is so loving then why in the world do people suffer the burden of pain?

Drs. Paul Meier and David Henderson tackle the tough issue of dealing with pain from a Christian perspective.

Unfortunately, we live in a broken world thanks to Adam’s sin.  With sin came the tag along of pain.  According to Meier and Henderson there are at least seven universal pains that we as fallen humans will encounter at some point in our life.  Those pains include, but may not be limited to:

  • Injustice
  • Rejection
  • Loneliness
  • Loss
  • Discipline
  • Failure
  • Death

Meier and Henderson have put together a great resource for ministers, lay people, and other professional Christian health providers so we can better understand the psychiatric scope of what people are dealing with, why they are dealing with their pain, and how we can administer the healing power of Jesus Christ through prayer and ministry to those who are suffering from any of these pains.

AS we go on through our lives experiencing pain we can miss some great opportunities to grow and become a better person from the experience.

Personally, I suffered a great deal of loss back in the late 90’s when three very dear friends of mine passed away within a few months of each other and from different reasons.  Within six months I felt the sting of death when my friend Angela died after having a large tree fall on top of her house.  While Angela was asleep, a wind storm blew through the region and forced a large old tree to topple on top of her grandmother’s house.  Angela was asleep up stairs, and the tree just happened to fall on top of the roof just above where she lay.  The crushing blow came to her instantly, and Angela woke up long enough to scream in pain before taking her last breath.

A couple of months following that a dear friend of mine passed away at the age of 53 of lung cancer – the same cancer had been in remission, but the cancer had already done enough damage to force her life to cut short early.

Two months after that, my best friend Bert Compton passed away from a cancer that only affects children under the age of 4.  As a children’s minister, I knew the enemy threw this children’s disease his way to snuff him out before Bert could be truly more effective than before.

All these losses could have made be bitter toward God, and given me a psychological disorder that would lead me to believe that everyone I was close to would die.  Instead, I let God have my grief, and my loss, and he turned it in to joy in knowing that their lives, though short, weren’t in vain, and their contribution to my life was just as valuable.

If we take time to step away from our pain we can find its purpose.  Instead of fighting the pain through drugs and alcohol and destructive behavior, we must embrace it so we can become better…and not bitter!

Dr. David Bernard vs. Dr. James White

The newly elected General Superintendent of the United Pentecostal Church International, Rev. Dr. David Bernard, a noted Oneness scholar is featured in another radio talk show discussion with Rev. Dr. James White, a noted Reformed (Trinitarian) scholar, and together they discuss church history and ancient Christian teaching regarding the nature of the One God.

1 Corinthians 8:6 “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”

To us true ancient Christians we echo the Apostle Paul’s teaching – Jesus Christ is the One God, Father and Lord!

The Battle Cry by Bert V. Compton II

The Battle Cry

This is my Battle cry saith the Lord

I want to come into your heart, please open the door

I want to show you and prepare you for things to come

I am Alpha and Omega, God’s only son

This is my battle cry do not be afraid

I am pouring out my spirit in this last day

The latter and former rain I am pouring out on the north, south, east and west

Just like the wine at the marriage at Caanan my last is always my best

This is my battle cry leave the past behind

Fear not cry not vengeance is always mine

Your enemies will be damned forever in a fire hotter than the sun

On that day every knee shall bow and all will know that I am the one

Who made heaven and earth and all man kind

Listen closely to my battle cry and you will find

That I am the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and this is my battle cry

From this world of sin and suffering you must die

And live in my Spirit and trust in me day after day

You must pick up your cross and follow me it’s the only way

This is my battle cry climb up to a higher level

Worship, praise, dance before me for you are dancing on the head of the devil

I am the Lion of the Tribe of Judah this is my battle cry

I said I will return keep looking toward the sky

Be busy telling every creature I am coming soon

Lead all of them to me and I will save them from their doom

I am the Lilly of the Valley this is my battle cry

Men led me to a Roman Cross and there I was to die

But on the third day I arose to live forever and ever more

The same I will do for you trust me for I am the Lord!

David Bernard vs. Robert Morey (Bernard defends UPCI)

Thomas Nelson Book Reviewer

One of my great passions is reading.  I can never seem to ever get enough of books.

Ecclesiastes 12:12b says, “…of making many books there is no end…”

In the last few days I’ve been accepted to be a book reviewer for Thomas Nelson Publishers.  I am very excited about this, because Thomas Nelson is one of my favorite publishing companies.  Thomas Nelson seems to put out some of the best products and Christian resources I have ever personally come across.

In the coming weeks you will be able to come to my bLog and read my latest review on books that might interest you as well.  Since I am a minister, I like to read books that pertain particularly to the field of ministry, but occasionally I enjoy taking a break from being “preacher” to just being “human.”  One of my “down to earth” story tellers I enjoy reading the most is Ted Dekker.  Hopefully I’ll get the chance to review some of his new projects before they come out.

With so much going on in the world and the never ending process of making books, I trust you will stay tuned right here to No More Walls for more information regarding some of the best Christian resources for your spiritual journey with Jesus!

Stalled, but not stopped!

No More WallsSeptember is supposed to be the month when NO MORE WALLS returns full force.  I regret to let everyone know that the show will not resume this month.  I can blame a number of factors, but I will not bore you with the details.

When I started this blog and this broadcast back in January of this year I was surprised at the number of great and capable Apostolic leaders who were willing to add their support to this effort and help tear down the walls of tradition that separate Apostolics from each other.

The summer is over, and I’ve got some things in store for the show to make it bigger and better than ever before.  However, if you believe in what this ministry stands for than I need you to stand with me in prayer and believe God with me for the following:

1.  A professional studio from which to broadcast
2.  Professional broadcast equipment to use
3.  Primetime broadcasting slot
4.  Favor to approach a couple of local radio stations to see if they will host the show

Right now that’s about it.  Once we meet the following prayer requests we will be back on the air and better than ever before.

A few days ago I attended a field trip with my two small children.  We visited the local American Family Radio station in Paducah, Kentucky.  My wife has known one of the radio personalities there and he has offered to let me come and co-host with him any time I want.  This is just a way to get my foot in the door to approach the station manager and get NO MORE WALLS inside the studios for us to broadcast.

Please believe God with me that things will come to fruition.  This is not wishful thinking.  I truly believe that God has called me to tear down the walls of tradition and division among Apostolics, and I will stop at nothing to do it!  The body of Christ must have unity, and we can’t let petty issues and personal convictions continue to tear the body of Christ apart.  As long as God keeps the fire of the gospel burning in my bones I will not rest until we have successfully tore down walls and blazed a trail for generations after us to come to continue to tear down walls as well.

The blog will be updated as often as I can do so, so stay tuned right here!

Be blessed!

A Call for Unity!
